Artificial Intelligence Policy

1. Purpose and responsibility

This policy explains how JoelKlemmer.com uses artificial intelligence, what the AI guide can and cannot do, how AI-assisted visual and editorial materials are treated, and how to raise a concern. Joel R. Klemmer, United States, operates the website. Contact contact@joelklemmer.com with “AI concern” and the relevant page or response details. The Privacy Policy separately explains personal-data processing and rights; the Disclosures and Media Rights policy explains attribution, permissions and identity-related use.

The AI guide is an automated website feature. It is not Joel Klemmer, does not speak as him, and has no authority to make a commitment, grant a license, accept an interview, provide an official quotation, or enter a contract. Its answers are generated when requested and are distinct from Joel’s authored books, approved biography, recorded statements and other original sources.

AI assistance does not transfer responsibility for published website content to a software provider or to visitors. We remain responsible for our own publication decisions and the obligations the law places on us. A disclosure of AI use is not a waiver of rights or an excuse for deception, discrimination, infringement or avoidable inaccessibility.

2. The website guide

The guide helps visitors explore Joel’s books, published conversations, biography and public recognition. It receives a visitor’s question and a controlled set of public source records. It is instructed to answer only when those records support an answer and to identify supporting sources. It does not have unrestricted access to Joel’s files, email, private Obsidian vault, local Neo4j database, unpublished evidence or personal records.

Source records can contain titles, dates, public summaries, publication information and public links. They are selected from the website’s public content, not from confidential working archives. Inclusion of a source does not make every statement by that publisher a verified fact, and a citation does not establish more than the cited material supports. Historical roles, awards and organizational records must be interpreted in their dated context.

The guide does not browse the open web on your behalf, open your documents, upload files, control accounts, execute code, send correspondence, make purchases or take other external actions. It does not have a persistent conversation history or a personal profile of the visitor. Each submission is handled as a separate question. You can use ordinary site search and source pages without submitting a question to an AI provider.

3. Providers, fallback and service limits

The guide uses the OpenAI API as its primary generation service. If the primary service is unavailable, reaches a limit, or cannot produce a valid response, the guide may send the same question and public source context to a free model through OpenRouter. A provider safety refusal is not deliberately routed to another provider to bypass that refusal.

The fallback is restricted in server code to the free-model route and a zero maximum price for the supported pricing categories. It does not authorize an automatic paid substitute. Free models, capacities, available providers and supported parameters can change. If no eligible model can respond under the configured safeguards, the guide reports that it cannot provide a verified answer. It does not silently relax the price or data-use restrictions to obtain a response.

The website limits request size, generated output, provider response time and request frequency. It separately limits paid primary-provider attempts using a shared server-side counter so simultaneous requests cannot each assume that the same remaining allowance is available. A failed paid attempt can consume that allowance. These controls protect availability and reduce abuse and unexpected cost; they do not promise unlimited free access or a fixed response time.

Temporary outages, account limits, geographic restrictions, network failures, service changes and safety requirements can affect availability. A translated website page does not guarantee that every AI provider is permitted or available in every country. We do not offer the feature where its operation would violate a restriction applicable to us or the provider. Ordinary public content and non-AI search remain separate from generation availability.

4. What is sent and retained

Submitting a question sends its text, the selected language and the relevant public source context to the website server. The server sends the question and public context to the selected generation provider, with instructions specifying the response language. A fallback attempt can involve both the primary provider and OpenRouter’s eligible model provider. Do not submit confidential, personal or sensitive material that is unnecessary for a question about the published record.

The website does not attach contact-form messages, mailbox content, payment information, a browser-stored conversation history, or private memory records to guide requests. It does not deliberately send your IP address or email address as part of the inference payload. Infrastructure and providers necessarily receive connection and service metadata as part of processing network requests.

OpenAI requests use the setting that disables storage of responses for later API retrieval. This setting is not a promise of zero retention: provider abuse-prevention, security, legal and other permitted records can remain subject to the provider’s terms and account settings. The website does not represent that its account has been approved for a special zero-data-retention arrangement unless such an arrangement is actually verified and disclosed.

OpenRouter requests use the routing setting intended to exclude providers that collect prompts for their own training or other disallowed data-collection purposes. That setting is not the same as a universal prohibition on all temporary processing or security logging. OpenRouter and the selected model provider can have different permitted retention practices. The Privacy Policy identifies the providers, processing purposes, transfer considerations and request channels applicable to the service.

The application’s normal operational logs record request status and limited technical outcomes rather than question text or generated answers. Rate and spending counters use pseudonymous or service-level identifiers and expire on bounded schedules. The application does not maintain a database of visitor conversations or persist them in browser storage. A visitor who voluntarily sends a response to us for investigation creates a separate correspondence record governed by the Privacy Policy and its retention rules.

5. Accuracy, citations and limitations

AI can make mistakes, omit context, mistranslate a term, confuse people or dates, or state an unsupported conclusion confidently. The guide’s source and output checks reduce some risks but cannot establish the truth of every sentence. Read the original source before quoting, publishing or relying on an answer. Where a response and an original source conflict, do not treat the response as evidence that the source has changed.

The guide is configured to decline unsupported questions. A lack of answer means the available source set or service could not establish an answer; it does not prove that an event did not occur, a right does not exist, or an allegation is true or false. A source citation is provided for checking and context, not as a guarantee of independent verification, completeness or currentness.

Generated answers are not professional advice and should not be used to make decisions about a person’s employment, credit, housing, education, health, legal rights or other significant interests. The website does not use the guide to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about visitors. It does not score visitors, infer their emotions or sensitive traits, perform facial recognition, or identify people from biometric data.

Do not attribute an AI answer to Joel as a direct quotation. An official statement requires the original authored or recorded source or a direct authorized response. If you report on the guide itself, distinguish the automated answer from the views and words of the person discussed, identify the relevant date and preserve any material limitation or correction.

6. Translation and language

The guide accepts the supported website language selection and is instructed to answer in that language while preserving official names and book titles. A fluent response does not prove an accurate translation. Legal concepts, organizational titles, idioms, dates and qualifications may not have a one-to-one equivalent across languages. Check important passages against the linked original and seek a qualified translation where the use requires one.

Static website translations, including policies and publication resources, follow the website’s separate editorial review process. A live guide response is generated on demand and has not been individually approved by Joel or a human translator before it appears. AI output does not amend the published policies, change an asset license, or override a mandatory local-language requirement.

7. AI-assisted images, video and design

The website may use AI-assisted illustration, backgrounds, lighting, image extension, retouching, animation or other visual production. Some compositions can combine a real photograph with a generated setting. An illustrative scene should not be treated as documentary proof that Joel attended a location, wore a particular item, met another person, received an award there, or participated in an event.

Material synthetic or manipulated content is identified where a disclosure is needed to avoid a misleading impression or required by applicable law. The disclosure should be understandable in the context in which the asset appears. A general policy cannot replace a required nearby label on a materially altered image, audio recording or video.

For published generated or materially edited depictions of Joel, our editorial process calls for comparison with authorized reference photographs and a review of facial appearance, head shape, body proportions and context. A visual that materially misrepresents his identity should be corrected, replaced or withheld. This is a human editorial review practice; it is not a biometric identity certification or a guarantee that a generative process cannot introduce a subtle error.

Generated backgrounds and design assets must also be reviewed for misleading context, unwanted symbols, improper third-party marks and other rights concerns. A scene must not imply an endorsement, affiliation, office, award or achievement that is not supported. The same factual and rights standards apply whether an asset is produced with conventional editing software or a generative model.

8. Human oversight and publication

AI may assist research organization, drafting, code, design and translation. Before a static factual claim is published, the claim must be supported by appropriate source material and the intended use must pass the website’s editorial and publication controls. AI output by itself is not evidence of an award, employment history, qualification, commercial relationship or event.

Human review is proportionate to the use. Identity depictions, public factual claims, rights-sensitive material and policy text require closer scrutiny than routine formatting. A tool’s internal score, simulated audience response or automated accessibility result does not replace the source record, owner authorization, legal analysis or testing required for the actual use.

We may correct or remove a generated answer example, static passage or asset after finding a material error. A correction should preserve enough context to avoid misleading visitors about what changed. We do not promise that every historical third-party copy, search cache or downstream AI system can be amended or removed by us.

9. Permitted use and misuse

Use the guide for questions about the website’s public subject matter. Do not submit material you have no right to disclose or use it to seek private information, impersonate another person, defeat security controls, obtain credentials, generate fraudulent endorsements or harass someone. Do not attempt to cause it to disregard its source boundaries or treat untrusted text as an instruction to reveal restricted information.

We may limit or refuse requests to protect people, providers and the service, consistent with applicable law. A safety or usage restriction does not prevent you from requesting an accessibility accommodation, making a privacy request, reporting an error or accessing ordinary public sources through available channels.

Nothing in this policy prohibits lawful criticism, independent research, reporting on AI behavior or good-faith security reporting. Any testing must respect applicable law, other people’s data and the actual authorization granted. A public endpoint is not permission to overload the service or access private systems.

10. Intellectual property and identity rights

AI use does not establish ownership of every output. Copyright protection depends on the jurisdiction, the nature of the material and legally relevant human contribution. Existing rights in original photographs, writing, marks, software and other protected inputs remain relevant. We claim only rights we hold or are entitled to exercise.

A guide answer does not grant a license to reproduce a complete book, podcast, photograph or third-party work. Follow the license attached to the source and any applicable statutory exception. Identified press assets have the limited permissions described in the Disclosures and Media Rights policy. An AI-generated description of a license is not the license itself.

The website does not grant general permission to clone Joel’s voice, construct a deceptive digital replica, manufacture statements in his name, or use his likeness to imply sponsorship or endorsement. Whether permission is required for a particular use depends on applicable rights, exceptions and circumstances. Lawful commentary, reporting, parody and other protected expression are not prohibited merely because they involve generated technology.

11. Concerns, rights and remedies

Report an inaccurate answer, misleading image, problematic citation, privacy issue or accessibility barrier to contact@joelklemmer.com. Include the page, approximate date, selected language, question and response where necessary, the specific concern and supporting evidence. Redact unrelated personal information, credentials and confidential material. You may request a non-AI response through the ordinary contact channel.

We will assess the issue, consider proportionate correction or restriction, and respond where appropriate. Personal-data requests follow the Privacy Policy and applicable statutory procedures, including verification, deadlines, appeals and regulator complaints where available. This reporting route does not remove any right to contact an authority or seek a remedy under applicable law.

AI transparency, data protection, consumer protection, accessibility, intellectual property, personal-identity and platform rules differ between jurisdictions. Mandatory applicable protections prevail over inconsistent wording here. A published disclosure does not itself establish compliance with every AI statute or replace a required impact assessment, provider agreement, local representative, consent or notice.

12. Changes to AI functions

We will update this policy when a material change affects how the feature works or how data is handled. Introducing persistent chat history, file uploads, new data categories, an additional provider, a materially different use of questions or external actions requires a fresh operational and policy review. We will provide further notice or obtain consent where required before the relevant processing begins.
